Indications:
Chlopromazine hydrochloride is indicated for the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders. It is also indicated to control nausea and vomiting, for the relief of restlessness and anxiety before surgery. It may also be used for the relief of intractable hiccups and treatment of severe behavioural problems in children.

Dosage and Administration:
Dosage is individualized and adjusted according to severity of the condition. It is important to increase dosage until symptoms are controlled. For psychotic treatment, daily dosage of 200 mg is not unusual. Some patients require higher dosages. Dosage should be increased more gradually in debilitated or emanciated patients. In continued therapy, gradually reduce dosage to the lowest effective maintenance level, after symptoms have been controlled for a reasonable period.

Contraindications:
Do not use in comatose states or in the presence of large amounts of central nervous system depressants such as alcohol, barbiturates, and narcotics.

Precautions:
Use with caution in persons with cardiovascular disease, liver disease, renal disease, chronic and respiratory disorders. This drug may suppress the cough reflex therefore aspiration of vomitus is possible. It may also mask signs of overdosage of toxic drugs and conditions such as intestinal obstruction and brain tumor. Reduce dosage of this drug can be done gradually to avoid physical dependence after abrupt withdrawal of high dose of Chlorpromazine.

Adverse Reactions:
The adverse effects of Chlorpromazine include mild to moderate drowsiness which generally disappears after the first or second week and hematologic disorders such as agranulocytosis, eosinophilia, leukopenia, haemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia though rare have been reported.
